Trinamool Congress chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday convened a meeting of party MPs and asked them continue with the party’s stand of opposing the land acquisition Bill in the upcoming monsoon session of the parliament. She also told the MPs to rally with the Opposition on the Vyapam scandal.
While the TMC may go soft on the NDA government on allegations against External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj of helping former cricket administrator Lait Modi, the party will not change its earlier stand on the land acquisition Bill.
At the meeting Ms Banerjee told her party MPs also to highlight why they are opposing the Land Bill and point out how the model of land acquisition adopted in West Bengal can be implemented elsewhere.
Left targets TMCMeanwhile targeting the TMC on corruption charges, leaders and supporters of 17 Left parties held a rally in the city. The protests come a day before the TMC is going to organise a huge Martyrs Day rally in the Esplanade area to pay homage to those killed in police firing in July 21, 1993.
Alleging a tacit understanding between the TMC and the BJP, leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Surya Kanta Mishra raised the issue of the Saradha scam. He dared Ms Banerjee to remove arrested TMC leader Madan Mitra who still holds the portfolio of a Minister despite being behind bars since December 2014.
