The Trinamool Congress will move a resolution that entails voting against the United Progressive Alliance government in the winter session of Parliament, party MP Saugata Roy said here on Monday.

The winter session is scheduled to begin on November 22.

“The motion will be against the decision to allow foreign direct investment in multibrand- retail,” he told The Hindu.

Referring to certain motions where there were provisions for voting such as the one under Rule 184, the former Union Minister said the Trinamool had not decided as yet on the kind of motion it intended to move.

Since the Trinamool did not have the numbers to bring in such a motion, its leaders were in discussion with other parties, both in the UPA and in the Opposition, he said.

The Trinamool has 19 members in the Lok Sabha and nine in the Rajya Sabha.

Though senior Trinamool leaders are not ready to divulge the names of the parties with whom discussions are on, they are confident that they will get the required support. “There are many parties that have criticised the recent policies of the UPA government who will join us in supporting the resolution,” another Trinamool MP and former Union Minister of State, Sultan Ahmed, said.
