Trinamool Congress Ministers "mentally prepared" to quit

June 18, 2012 11:01 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 11:46 pm IST - KOLKATA:

Trinamool Congress representatives in the UPA government are “mentally prepared” to tender their resignations although the party has “no intention of toppling the government,” Sudip Bandopadhyay, leader of the Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party, said here on Monday.

This assertion comes after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired a meeting of her party Ministers, MPs and MLAs in the wake of growing differences between the Congress and the Trinamool, with matters coming to a head over the Presidential poll.

While news had started doing the rounds that the Trinamool Ministers and MPs handed over their resignations to Ms. Banerjee at the meeting, Mr. Bandopadhyay said there was “no iota of truth in it.” He asked the government at the Centre not to hold out any such “indirect threats” to the Trinamool. “If the present government feels that the Trinamool is becoming a burden to them, all the Ministers are mentally prepared to tender their resignation. We should not be given any such indirect threat,” he told journalists.
