A foreign-made bomb, planted along the highway near the Manipur-Myanmar border and targeting security personnel, prematurely exploded on Sunday night, killing a tribal youth on the spot.

The blast took place at Kondong near Moreh, the border town in Chandel district. The victim has been identified as Thangminlien Haokip (25) of Moreh. Police have started an investigation.

The local residents staged a sit-in on Monday demanding justice. In the recent past there have been a series of bomb blasts in these parts killing and wounding security personnel and villagers. Meanwhile, there was a fierce exchange of fire between insurgents and security personnel at Khoibu in Chandel district on Sunday night. No casualties have been reported.
