Eight coaches of the Mysore-Ajmer Express were derailed near Pune on Wednesday evening, injuring at least five passengers, a railway official said.

The accident occurred at 7.15 pm near Jejuri pilgrim town on the Pune-Satara section of the Central Railway, which has a single-line operation.

According to a Central Railway spokesman, efforts are on to carry out relief and rescue operations at the accident site, around 80 km from here. However, incessant rains and poor visibility in the region was hampering relief operations.

The injured have been rushed to hospital in Jejuri, he added.
