As many as 11 central trade unions have called an all-India general strike for February 20 and 21 to protest the “anti-people” policies of the UPA government that include price rise and poor implementation of labour laws, and disinvestment in public sector units/increased FDI in various sectors.
CPI MP and All-India Trade Union Congress general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta told The Hindu here that the Indian National Trade Union Congress and the Labour Progressive Front — trade union wings of the ruling Congress and its ally DMK — would join hands with the others.
The unions are demanding fixing of statutory minimum wages at Rs. 10,000 a month, stopping of contract labour, bringing 37 crore unorganised sector workers under the EPF/ESI Acts and raising minimum pension to Rs. 3,000.
The functioning of the power and transport sectors, oil industries, the RBI and other banks, insurance firms, posts and telecommunications, and information technology firms would be affected during the strike by the unions, which include the BMS, CITU, HMS, AICCTU, AIUTUC, UTUC and SEWA, Mr. Dasgupta claimed.

It is true that the cause of this strike is right.
Hold people to the fulfillment of this aim is difficult.
The country's economy is already on the backward movement.
Under these circumstances, it is fair and proper that, trade unions
and others unite their strength and hold the strike meaningfully on
one day.
Then the support also they gain, country's losses also could be
avoided.Other suggestion is to call off the bundh but stage dharan's in front
of every State legislature and in front of Lokasabha. This would be much more effective, meaningful and result oriented. We hope the trade unions and their supporters would understand and co- operate
Hi,
This is true that all are here facing lot of problems regarding wages & other legal facilities which all deserves as per govt. rules. But the thing is that mostly in our state are not obedient .
First of all govt. have to be very strict to follow the rule. Private company's are not paying the proper wages. they are not giving the proper benefit as per rules. The are not giving proper leaves as per the rules. Firstly who will follow these strictly. Otherwise it is coming to govt. that govt. is not giving anything or govt. is doing laws against us. But the govt./ servants has to be very strict and very professional. keeping in mind that some of their relatives are also victimized for their lac of concentration. Please do the needful.
