Nanded police say they have received no complaint
Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia tried to outdo Akbaruddin Owaisi within a fortnight of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA being sent to jail on charges of delivering a hate speech at Nirmal town in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh.
At a public meeting at Bhokar town in Nanded district of Maharashtra, just 80 km from Nirmal, on January 22 — details of which are now emerging after a video-recording was posted online — Dr. Togadia attacked Owaisi in particular and Muslims in general.
The VHP leader was lustily cheered by the gathering as he continued with his inflammatory speech, just as Owaisi’s speech was received with cheers by an enthusiastic audience on December 22, 2012.
A police complaint was filed against Dr. Togadia in Hyderabad on Tuesday after clippings of his speech went viral on social networking sites.
The clippings showed Dr. Togadia thundering about what happened in Nelli (Assam), Bhagalpur (Bihar) and in Gujarat, where the police stood aside as Muslims were massacred. “Ours is not a religion of cowards,” Dr. Togadia said, “but of Goddess Bhavani, who always has weapons in her hands.”
This was evidently a response to Owaisi’s challenge at Nirmal to withdraw police forces for 15 minutes.
Besides the nature of the speeches by Owaisi and Dr. Togadia, there are other similarities too. Complainants in both cases approached the police and the courts on the basis of video clippings on the YouTube.
Also, the police at both Nirmal and Bhokar towns remained unaware of the explosive content of the speeches despite monitoring the events. In Owaisi’s case, a suo motu case was booked by Nirmal police on January 2 — 11 days after his speech.
Nanded district police said they did not find anything amiss with the Bhokar public meeting.
When contacted on the phone, Bhokar Inspector of Police Sandeep Triyambak Munde said police had issued permission for the meeting held at the Zilla Parishad ground.

Any statement which is against any community and religion has to be
condemn and booked under law.As we are in secular country where
various religion and ethnic groups resides,it is of paramount
importance to protect the unity and integrity of the nation.It is
where the progress and development of the country resides.No offender
should be punish under law no matter the caste and religion or rich or
poor of offender.BJP and other NDA alliance should not step in
rescuing offender and rather should facilitate the progress and unity
of nation as they are projected as the major political alliance and
can go on to make the govt. so secularism should be of their prime
importance.

I think whether its Owaisi or Togadiya, they are two faces of same coin. I feel, it will be good for us Indians to ignore these characters and reason whatever is happening around us that why its happening and is it right? Lets not see everything with glasses of religion as we all know that there are characters in the society who misuses religion for their personal cause. This benefits neither society or religion nor the nation.
Mr. Togadia's counterattack is as asinine as Mr. Owaisi's which prompted it. Even if he did not directly threaten the Muslim citizenry by what he said, he effectively justified the massacres at Assam, Bihar and Gujurat as being state-approved actions AND as being evidence of the capabilities of the Hindu community to deal with threats such as made by Mr. Owaisi. This in itself amounts to spreading hatred and therefore he must be handed the same treatment of law as applied to the other.
The VHP is presumptuous in believing that they are the face and voice of all Hindus and that the mob which attends their meetings and cheer them represent and validate their assumptions. The VHP is wrong if it nurtures such grandiose estimations.
With so-called leaders like these, the Hindu-Muslim animosity will only deepen, but then it also offers the opportunity to critically examine the value of putting religion above law and in rejecting rabble-rousers and fundamentalism.
Though both of the comments by Togadia and Owaisi are equally against
the secular spirit of the nation. The difference is Owaisi as an
opportunistic politician keeping his self interest above everything, was
eyeing his vote bank, could he possibly have done something like that?
Even Owaisi's own mad sense may not agree with him. Togadia was boasting
of what he and his folks have accomplished. Are then both the same clear
and present danger?
Finally, cat is out of the bad with Togodia's comment that Police stood aside in Gujarat while innocent Muslim civilians were killed. It is a hard indictment of Modi's government's involvement in the pogrom.
People like Owaisi and Togadia should be booked under sedition and should be put in jail for long time until they mend their ways. I would be even happy see people like them hanged by the law of the land. They do more harm to our great Nation than anyone else. I dont know when the poor and innocent people who dance to tunes of Togadia abd Owaisi will realize this.
BJP, Hindus and Modi will do well if it alienates itself from this Togadia. He is hell bent on eroding BJPs chances with his band of speeches and he was openly tweeting against Modi during the Gujarat elections. Even the latest speech looks like it is just meant to take revenge on BJP and Modi. As a hardcore BJP supporter I would like my religion to get protected from onslaught by media as well others, but that should be by debate and counter arguments and not by bad mouthing
others. BJP will benefit immensely if Togadia/Singhal etc is put in Jail atleast till next general elections.
BJP should also start preparing its generation after Modi, Sushma and Jaitley. With the likes of Manohar Parikar , Meenakshi lekhi, Piyush Goyal, Varun Gandhi, Anurag Thakur etc in its rank it is high time to start grooming them for taking the party forward.Or BJP should also be aware that it should not allow its allies to built up thier base on their support and then dumb BJP like Biju.
what is this nonsense about 'not a Hindu died' and give us '15 min'. In
Gujarat 500 hindus died in police firing and so many more muslims died
for no fault...its insane for Mr. Owaisi and Tagodia to have this kind
of slanging match. Let the Government force these two people to live in
the same house and reform themselves...

The scary part is people with vested interests are given so much spotlight by the media; the catastrophic effects of their statements gets multiplied several times.
you can not build a strong nation by threatening communal harmony. Togadia should have been behind bars several years ago for his earlier hate speeches. By failing to take action against such people government is making such an INDUSTRY even stronger

I wonder how they could make such speeches. When there is already a case
registered on a gentleman for hate speech and another gentleman speaks

It's okay to have a misplaced follower, but the damage is terrible when

I am afraid, where INDIA is heading to by way of these kind of
provocative statements to retaliate each other. Anti-Seditious laws
should be strictly implemented and take free-mouth people to task. India
is known for secularism and we all need to ensure the secular fabric of
the society for better common good of all. Freedom of speech is
enshrined in our constitution but with the reasonable restrictions. They
should not only exercise their rights but also duties.
What more damning indictment of the Hindutva forves can there be? Coming from Dr,Togadia, an oncologist who seems to advocate excising the "diseased limb" in his speeches, there is no reason to disbelieve his statement that the police "stood aside" in Gujarat. And he seems to proudly own up to killings of non-Hindus elsewhere. Way to go, Doctor saaheb!
And what timing! At the very time when Narendra Modi, who has been assiduously battling charges of "standing aside" in 2002 is making a bid for prime minister in waiting. Either the doctor is foolish - which does not seem to be the case - or the Hindutva forces have a political agenda far removed from what they preach. I would not imagine that I would ever need to thank a person like Owaisi, but it seems that his big mouth has brought forth a long-awaited confession about the 2002 riots in Gujarat.
Send him as a nieghbour for Owaisi. The governmetn should take strict actions against all these idiots so that it will not be repeated.
There is a difference. Akbaruddin...issued threats whereas Togadia was stating his version of history.

Mr.Harpal Singh's piece clearly shows the police at both Nirmal and
Bhokar towns in very poor light.It just can't be that they are illiterate or unaware of what the speakers were spouting.It is clearly cases of just sheer negligence that they were unaware of the explosive contents of the speeches despite monitoring the events.And to say that they did not find anything amiss at the meeting only goes to show their apathy and casualness.
I carry a Hindi name but I am not much of a Hindu. Born to atheistic
parents I chose to be agnostic. As a citizen I find it disgusting
that Owaisi and Togadia have spoken in such inflammatory terms. At
this rate we shall all soon be abusing each other. Gandhi said eye
for an eye shall lead to everybody in the world being blind. If one
chap has been rash and unwise it does not give someone else licence
to be similarly rash and unwise. Naturally, the secular nature of the
country and its constitution shall come under strain if we allow the
likes of Owaisi, Togadia, and the Grand Mufti of J&K to take people
for a ride with their fanatical and propagandist pronouncements. But
freedom of thought and expression, you know!
