Three killed, 7 injured in Mumbai airport accident

Three contract labourers were killed and seven injured when a portion of the under construction bridge near the arrival area of the international airport here collapsed at 11.45 p.m. on Wednesday. A 35-metre girder of the under construction elevated access road, collapsed while work was on and 12 workers were trapped in the debris. Later, they were rescued.The deceased Rambali Das, 44 and Santosh Das, 26, hailed from Arwal district of Bihar, and Jaychand Mandal, 30, was from Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

Among those injured, one is in a critical condition. Two other workers were sent home after primary aid.

The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), which is implementing the project, did not issue any statement on the tragedy.

The police have arrested three workers (two from L&T) on the charge of negligence.
