One raped the woman whole the other two are part of the robbery

The police have arrested three men accused of robbing and raping a Jharkhand policewoman in Latehar district on Thursday.

The incident occurred when the woman was on her way from Ranchi to Garhwa district with her family. They were bringing the body of her younger sister home for burial.

“The Latehar police have arrested three men — one raped the woman and the other two were part of the robbery. We have recovered the valuables that were stolen. There are still some from the group missing, including another rape accused,” said Jharkhand Director-General of Police Rajeev Kumar, who visited the spot, along with senior officials, on Sunday.

The family were travelling in an SUV with the body of the policewoman’s sister, who was shot on Wednesday in Ranchi by unknown persons. At Jungledaga, on the outskirts of Latehar, a group of armed men stopped the vehicle.

The group made the family switch off the vehicle lights, took their mobile phones, and robbed the policewoman of Rs. 10,000 and then made her get out of the car and raped her at an isolated spot nearby.

“During interrogation, it was found that the men were drunk. They had come to the highway near their village planning a robbery,” said the DGP.

The policewoman got the job on compassionate grounds after her husband was killed in an attack on the convoy of MP Inder Singh Namdhari in December 2011.
