<i>The Hindu</i> wins reader engagement awards

Its online coverage of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election Campaign 2016 bagged the Bronze award in the Best Reader Engagement category.

The Hindu has been awarded the Silver and Bronze awards in the ‘Best Reader Engagement’ category of the South Asian Digital Media Awards at the WAN-IFRA (World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers) India 2016 conference in Kolkata. The Silver award went to the Ask Ashwin Contest from The Hindu Group’s sportstarlive.com. The Hindu ’s online coverage of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election Campaign 2016 bagged the Bronze award in the Best Reader Engagement category. The awards were presented at a glittering ceremony on on Wednesday.

The awards, presented by WAN-IFRA and Google, recognise publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies as part of their total product offering to meet the major changes in how people consume news today. The awards are presented for South Asia, Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America. The winners from each region subsequently compete for the World Digital Media Awards.

This year, the winners of South Asian Digital Media Awards were chosen from nine categories — best news website, best new product, best new mobile service, best digital advertising campaign, best use of online video, best entertainment and lifestyle mobile service, best entertainment and lifestyle website service, best data visualisation project, and best reader engagement.

WAN-IFRA, based in Paris, France and Frankfurt, with subsidiaries in Singapore, India and Mexico, is a global organisation of the world’s newspapers and news publishers. It represents more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and 3,000 companies in over 120 countries.
