The Hindu has registered a big increase in its readership, the just-released findings of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) for the third quarter of 2011 show.

Among the top three English dailies in India, The Hindu has registered the highest growth in readership compared with the readership numbers of the last quarter. IRS 2011 Q3 reveals that our flagship newspaper has added 92,000 readers and its current average issue readership stands at 2,169,000.

In South India, The Hindu has reinforced its undisputed dominance in terms of readership: its average issue readership has grown by 3.7 per cent. Our newspaper has added 65,000 readers in South India in the third quarter and stands out as the No. 1 English language daily in the region.

In Chennai, where it all began 133 years ago, The Hindu has registered a growth of 10 per cent in readership, adding 50,000 new readers. During the same quarter, The Times of India has declined by 4 per cent in Chennai.

The readership of our newspaper has grown by a hefty 20 per cent in Hyderabad and by 14.70 per cent in Visakhapatnam. The overall growth in Andhra Pradesh has been 4.10 per cent.

In Kerala, The Hindu 's growth in readership has been 5.20 per cent.

There has been very significant growth in Delhi as well, with our newspaper's readership increasing by 18.60 per cent in the third quarter of 2011.

The Hindu 's integrity, credibility, independent editorial stand, and reliable and balanced presentation of news, analysis, and comment have, over the years, won for it the serious attention and regard of a variety of readers, including policy-makers in every sphere of life and those who shape trends in society. We would like to take this opportunity to thank readers for their constant support and the great trust they place in us.

IRS 2011 Q3 further reveals that business dailies as a category have shown growth over the previous quarter. Business Line , from The Hindu Group of publications has registered an impressive growth of 14.2 per cent in readership — the highest for any business daily in India. In fact, Business Line is the only business paper to register double digit growth in the third quarter of 2011. This again expresses the trust readers place in the integrity, credibility, and independence of our business daily and the value they get from it.
