Union Minister Shashi Tharoor on Sunday recorded his statement before the Vasant Vihar Sub-Divisional Magistrate, sharing his version of events leading up to his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death in a South Delhi hotel room a couple of days ago.

The SDM, who refused to share details of the inquiry, also recorded statements of two more immediate family members of Ms. Pushkar at his office in Kapashera. While the inquiry report is yet to be submitted to the police for further action, Dr. Tharoor has written to the Union Home Ministry seeking expeditious investigation into his wife’s death.

Speaking to The Hindu on Sunday, Mr. Tharoor’s personal secretary Abhinav Kumar confirmed that the letter to Mr. Sushilkumar Shinde was sent earlier in the day. “Mr. Tharoor requested Mr. Shinde to expedite the investigations to put an end to the media speculations on how the events on the day of Ms. Pushkar’s death unfolded. In the second part of the letter, he has assured the police of full cooperation with the investigators.”

The SDM, Alok Sharma, also recorded statements of two members of Ms. Pushkar’s immediate family.Asked if he questioned Mr. Tharoor on the allegedly strained relations between him and his wife, Mr. Sharma refused to say anything, citing that he would wait for the final post-mortem and toxicology reports. It is, however, learnt that the Minister told him that his equation with his deceased wife was completely fine and they had arguments “like any other couple.”

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram was among the many who visited Mr. Tharoor’s house on Sunday to express their condolence.
