A youth, who is a degree dropout, on Saturday allegedly murdered a 19-year-old girl in Bhainsa town of Adilabad district, apparently after failing to marry her.

The accused, Maveri Mahesh, aged 21 years, slit the throat of the girl, an Intermediate dropout, in broad daylight in front of his house in Gopalnagar locality resulting in her instantaneous death. According to the police, the two, belonging to different castes, had reportedly wanted to marry but the parents on both sides had rejected the proposal. Mahesh “murdered” the girl so that no one else could marry her.

Bhainsa DSP Ande Ramulu said the crime was committed when the girl was passing in front of the house of the accused.

Mahesh had caused failure of an alliance for the girl about 18 months ago by exhibiting his photos with her. He had also attempted to commit suicide over the same issue. The accused was arrested by the police.
