Yellampalli oustees told to vacate houses

July 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

Incessant rains during last few days and the subsequent release of flood waters from the Kadem Project in Adilabad district has ensured sufficient inflows into the Sripada Yellampalli Project in Ramagundam mandal of Karimnagar district.

Total capacity of the Yellampalli Project is 20.175 tmc. On Tuesday evening, the inflows into the project took the storage to 6.7456 tmc. Against full reservoir level of 148 meters, the current level is 141.50 meters. There was an inflow of 37,528 cusecs into the project and an outflow of 158 cusecs to Hyderabad metro water supply (HMWS). With the Government deciding to store full capacity of water at the Yellamapalli, the irrigation authorities have informed the project oustees in Cheggam, Undeda, Mukatraopeta and Kotilingala in the district and Chandanapur, Kondapalli, Padathanapalli, Karnamamidi and Rapalli villages of Adilabad district to vacate their houses following likely submergence. About 260 houses need to be vacated in Karimnagar and 453 houses in Adilabad district. The backwaters of Yellampalli would submerge the old Rayapatnam Bridge hence the R&B authorities have accelerated execution of work on the high-level bridge across the river connecting Karimnagar and Adilabad districts.

In Cheggam village the situation is otherwise different. The villagers said that they had not received any information to vacate the village where there are 180 houses.

“Where do we go and take shelter without any proper relief and rehabilitation colonies in place for the project displaced families”, asked a project oustee K. Chokka Reddy of Cheggam village.

Lethargy of the administration and non-payment of compensation had become a cause of concern for the villagers, he stated and added that they would not leave till the Government provided them with compensation.
