Yedupayala to get a facelift

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - SANGAREDDY:

The famous Yedupayala Vana Durga Bhavani Temple located in Medak district is all set for a face lift.

Elaborate planning for this is on and with Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy showing special interest, the shrine could well be on its way to development as an important tourism spot on the Telangana map.

Sources said the development of Yedupayala was discussed at a recent meeting held attended by Ms. Padma, senior tourism official G. Kishan Rao and others. It was decided to develop this pilgrim centre alongside the planned development of Yadagirigutta.

It was estimated that about Rs.15 crore was required for the comprehensive development of the centre. This would include the establishment of some permanent structures, including a yagashala and addala meda (a structure with mirrors inside), a dormitory with toilets, and about 20 showers where pilgrims can bathe.

It was also proposed to expand the road from Pothamshettypally to Yedupayala at an estimated cost of Rs. 21. 6 crore. Tenders had already been called for.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had released Rs.1 crore for the smooth conduct of sivaratri celebrations held recently at the temple. Part of the amount remained unspent. The officials have proposed that the sum be spent towards funding a consultant who would design Yedupayala’s future.

“Vana Durga Bhavani temple is only the second such temple in India after the one at Kashmir. The government has planned to develop this area as an important tourist location in the State. The laying of the Pothamshettlypally-Yedupayala road will reduce the distance to Hyderabad by 30 kilometres,” DRDA Project Director and in-charge tourism officer Ch. Satyanaranaya Reddy told The Hindu .
