Villagers, local public representatives and environmental activists have urged the State Government to provide employment to locals in Yadadri Thermal Power plant apart from addressing all the environmental issues.
Villagers have appealed to the Government to provide employment to those who were being displaced and losing land under the project. District Collector P. Satyanarayana Reddy and Joint Collector N. Satyanarayana conducted a public hearing on Tuesday at Veerulapalem village, where the 4,000-MW project is proposed to be established.
The Government had acquired over 4,600 acres from farmers of Damarcherla mandal. Opposition leaders led by Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukendar Reddy and Miryalaguda MLA N. Bhaskar Rao made the job of officials easy as they unanimously supported the project.
The Nalgonda MP and Miryalguda MLA observed that the project would boost the development of not only the backward Damarcherla mandal, but also Miryalguda and Huzurnagar Assembly Constituencies. Human Rights Forum activists led by, its Secretary G. Mohan, N. Harindar and N. Sulochana asked the officials to detail the Government plans on disposal of ash.
Mr. Harindar said that the proposed project would generate at least 30 tonnes of ash everyday but the Government had no concrete plans of disposing the ash without causing any harm to environment. The hearing was completed peacefully as majority of the villagers supported the project. However, some of them alleged that the officials had restricted the entry of activists those who were fighting against the project. Villagers from Veerulapalem, Veerappagudem, Damarcherla, Kapoor Thanda and Modugula Thanda,Thimmpuram, Shanthi Nagar, Narsapuram, Kallepally, Gandhi Nagar and other villages attended the hearing.
