Kagaznagar police on Saturday registered two cases against some workers of the Sirpur Paper Mills (SPM) who exchanged blows on the question of confronting the factory management for release of salary in the current month. While one section of the workers wanted to go ahead and question the management as to the reason for not displaying a notice giving the date for release of salary, another wanted the former not to do so. Heated exchange between the two section of workers led to jostling and exchange of blows between a couple of them from each side, said Kagaznagar DSP A. Suresh Babu. Consequent upon the incident, police summoned workers from both the groups and counselled them.

Meanwhile, the management displayed a notice saying salaries will be paid on November 25. It may be recalled that production of paper in SPM remains suspended for more than 50 days.

Earlier, scores of workers of staged a demonstration at the factory gate and inside the premises demanding release of salaries on time. The agitating workers alleged that the management of the factory has conspired to suspend production in order to close it down.
