In a shocking revelation, a mother handed over her girl child to employees of a private hospital in Suryapet in Telangana unable to pay the hospital bill after delivering her third girl child.
Acting as middlemen, a couple of employees of the hospital had allegedly sold the 13-day-old girl child to a childless couple from Chhattiasgarh three days ago.
The news came to light on Tuesday late in the night when the parents of the girl approached the hospital management asking them to return their baby. The parents had brought Rs. 25,000 to clear the hospital dues to take back their days-old baby girl. The parents were told that the baby girl was given away for adoption to some childless couple from Chhattisgarh.
Refusing to go home, the couple stayed in the hospital demanding the hospital management to return their baby.
Meanwhile, the Women Development and Child Welfare Department officials and Police were informed by some local people about the incident. Both the Police and Women Development and Child Welfare Department officials began probing into the incident.
The sources associated with the investigation said that the poor labourer couple from Imampet area located on the outskirts of Suryapet came to hospital 16 days ago when the woman developed labour pains.
Having two girl children, the couple went for third delivery for want of a boy. As the wife delivered another baby girl, the husband reportedly did not even visit the hospital to see his daughter, leave alone clearing the hospital dues. When the woman was in a helpless state, couple of employees of the hospital offered the mother to hand over the baby to them to clear the dues.
The Police and Women Development and Child Welfare Department officials were trying to get the baby girl back from Chattisgarh.
