Woman, 9-month-old boy killed in accident

A middle-aged woman and a baby boy were killed and eight others were injured when the Tata Ace vehicle in which they were travelling rammed into a tree at China Nalaballi in Dummugudem mandal in the small hours of Monday.

They were part of a group of pilgrims returning home after visiting the famous Kanakadurga temple in Vijayawada when they met with the accident, sources said.

The Tata Ace vehicle was proceeding to Tegada in Charla mandal when the incident occurred.

Overcrowded

The overcrowded vehicle turned turtle after the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a roadside tree on Bhadrachalam-Charla highway.

K Nagamani, 49, and Shyam Sundar Reddy, a nine-month-old boy, of Tegada were killed on the spot.

The driver and seven other occupants of the vehicle were injured in the mishap. Six of them were admitted to the Government area hospital in Bhadrachalam.

The Dummugudem police have registered a case and launched an inquiry into the incident.
