Karnataka State Mango Development Corporation chairperson Kamalaskhi has said the corporation is planning to provide compensation to mango growers in Kolar and Chickballapur districts where mango trees are withering owing to shortage of water.

New machine

She was participating in a workshop on using Italian-made sprayer ‘Boomer’, at Krishi Vijnana Kendra at Kurubur in Chintamani on Friday. The new machine is likely to become a boon for growers and the corporation will try to provide them at concessional rates to the growers, Ms. Kamalakshi said.

The corporation had earmarked Rs. 1 crore for imparting guidance, and providing technical training and financial assistance to the growers, she added.

V. Nache Gowda, Dean of the College of Horticultural Sciences, Kolar, said 40 per cent water could be saved while spraying insecticides using the new equipment.

Chickballapur Mango Growers’ Association president K. Srinivasa Gowda suggested that the equipment could be provided on rent to growers as all them cannot afford to buy one. Sampath was the resource person.
