Water level in the Godavari rising steeply

July 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - KHAMMAM:

With heavy rain pounding the catchment areas of the Godavari, water level in the river and its tributaries continued to rise steeply in the Agency areas of Bhadrachalam and Palvancha divisions in the district.

The water level in the Godavari touched 18.5 feet at the temple town of Bhadrachalam on Sunday evening.

The level in the river is expected to rise steeply and cross the first warning level of 43 feet at the temple town by Monday afternoon due to incessant rain in the upstream areas, according to the Central Water Commission sources.

Meanwhile, a team of the Irrigation Department officials monitored the water level in the river at the temple town on Sunday evening in view of the possibility of the river crossing the first warning level on Monday. They reportedly chalked out the necessary arrangements to issue first flood warning if the level in the river touches 43 feet.

Several forest streams were in spate in Wajedu mandal with the Godavari showing a rising trend at Perur.
