The Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali has said that he had instructed officials to take up survey of wakf properties in Telangana.

The government had not surveyed lands of wakf and revenue administration after Andhra Pradesh was formed with the merger of erstwhile Hyderabad State in 1956. The land was surveyed only during the Nizam’s rule, Mr. Ali told media persons after occupying his chambers in the Secretariat on Sunday.

He said about 1,700 acres of wakf land was estimated to have been encroached in Hyderabad. Hence, he said he had decided to hold an official meeting shortly to chalk out a plan for the survey.

Thereafter, the government would design an action plan for Hyderabad with the aim to create civic infrastructure for a population of two crore. The population of the city at present is about 90 lakh. The Deputy Chief Minister also said the government was committed to remove the label of “old city” for old parts of Hyderabad. The city will have a new look all over.

The government will set up a toll free helpline for the people of Telangana which will be monitored by an IAS officer with the assistance of a team.
