I want to apply for a tourist visa to visit the US. I reside in Bengaluru, but I wish to apply for my visa at the Hyderabad consulate. How do I proceed as I do not see the option while applying online?

Nitin Gupta

You may apply at any of the US consulates throughout India or at the Embassy in New Delhi. The requirements for each visa class are the same throughout our posts.

Please email to the address provided below or call the call centre at 040-4625-8222 to know more about scheduling an appointment.

While entering the SEVIS ID for booking a visa appointment, I entered the ID of another university by mistake. How do I rectify the error to proceed further? I haven’t submitted my DS-160?

Venkata Krishna Rao Koganti

Once the DS-160 application has been submitted, it is not possible to make changes. Since you haven’t submitted the DS-160 application, you should complete it with the correct information prior to your visa interview. You should also inform the visa officer about the error.

I possess a B1/B2 visa valid until 2023. I travelled to the US to attend conferences and business meetings. I now plan to visit for tourism /travel in June. Can I travel on my existing B1 /B2 visa?

Sanjay Vadapalli

As long as your US B1/B2 visa is valid, you may use it for travel to the port of entry. However, a visa only provides you with the permission to go to a port of entry and apply for admission. The final determination of entry into the United States, as well as the length of your allowed stay, is determined by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) immigration officer at the port of entry.

Our B1/B2 visas are valid until December 2016. My spouse and I are senior citizens who wish to renew our visas. How many days before the visa expiry date should we initiate the renewal process? Are we eligible for interview waiver/drop box facility?

Mudunuri Chitti Raju

You may renew your visa at any time, but if you plan to travel to the United States before expiration, your stay may be limited by the number of days left on the visa. If you had a valid US visa in the same category, you may qualify for renewal via the Interview Waiver Programme (IWP) regardless of your age. Please visit the Consulate’s website for more information: www.ustraveldocs.com/in .

Based on the information of my admission on my university portal, I booked my ticket 33 days before the start of classes. From the orientation date, I am travelling 22 days in advance. Kindly let me know whether I can travel under the above circumstances.

Raghavan Raghu

You cannot enter the US more than 30 days prior to the start date listed on your I-20. Please also keep in mind that your visa permits you to travel to a port of entry, but at the port of entry, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immigration officer will determine whether you can enter and the length of your stay.
