The long pending proposal to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the government area hospital in Bhadrachalam has finally begun to take concrete shape.
After much delay, the authorities concerned spurred into action in the aftermath of the kidnap of a six-day-old baby boy from the hospital by a woman from Nellipaka of Andhra Pradesh on Monday. The woman was subsequently nabbed and the boy was handed over to his parents by the police on Tuesday. The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the kidnap and if other persons are also involved. The way the woman lifted the boy from the incubator centre in the hospital in broad daylight and fled without the knowledge of the staff manning the centre has not only exposed the serious lapses on the part of the staff concerned but also the gaping loopholes in hospital security.
Sensing the need to introduce surveillance in the hospital, the authorities have decided to install CCTV cameras in the hospital in a few days. An indent has been placed for the purchase of eight CCTV cameras to improve the security system, Koti Reddy, the hospital superintendent, told The Hindu . Passes will be issued to the attendants of patients from Monday onwards, he said.
