The police arrested some Vemulaghat villagers who raised slogans at the public hearing on environment impact assessment (EIA) of Kaleswaram project held here on Saturday.

All the speakers in the beginning spoke in favour of Kaleswaram project which irritated the land oustees. They demanded that they should be provided a chance to speak first.

Meanwhile, even as some farmers at one corner of venue raised slogans against Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, they were immediately arrested and shifted to Rajgopalpet police station. Protesting the arrest of farmers and not allowing them to speak, some of the oustees staged a dharna at Rangadhampally Chowrastha, who were led by TDP leader O. Pratap Reddy and Congress leader Cheruku Muthyam Reddy. They were arrested and shifted to Chinnakodur police station.
