US films producer wants to partner with Telangana government

DreamWorks Pictures agrees to collaborate to create Dreamplay, a small scale theme centre

DreamWorks Pictures, an American producer of motion films, has asked Telangana government to create a conducive environment in the State to be able to promote its movies.

At a meeting with Information Technology Minister K.T. Rama Rao on the fifth day of his US tour in California, DreamWorks chief executive and one of the founders Jeffrey Katzenberg explained to the former that the motion picture producer was looking at creating high end theatre ecosystem to promote its movies. DreamWorks planned to cater to Indian market and believed that Hyderabad was an ideal location given its talent pool and vibrant film industry, a release here said.

Mr. Katzenberg said the film unit looked to expanding its production facilities in India and sought partnership with Telangana government for long-term plans. DreamWorks and Telangana government also agreed to collaborate to create Dreamplay, a small scale theme centre, which could become a tourist attraction in Hyderabad.

Inviting Mr. Katzenberg to Hyderabad, Mr. Rao extended full support and cooperation of the government in the company’s endeavours. He said the upcoming film city in Hyderabad would be the ideal location for the future production needs of DreamWorks. Mr. Rao later visited La Kretz Innovation campus in Los Angeles to understand the functioning of Los Angeles Clean Tech Incubator. He was shown around many of the innovations that were incubated and relevant to Hyderabad like water harvesting and converting sewer water into clean water.
