Union Heavy Industry Minister Anant Geete will hold a meeting with officials of the Telangana government and the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) to study feasibility of reopening the closed cement factory at Adilabad.
The meeting would be held in June at Hyderabad or New Delhi, as per the assurance given by the Minister on Thursday to a team comprising the Telangana State Forest and Housing Ministers, Jogu Ramanna and A. Indrakaran Reddy, Adilabad MP G. Nagesh, and TRS Adilabad west district unit president Loka Bhuma Reddy.
Second meetThe Telangana Ministers met Mr. Geete for the second time within a span of few months seeking revival of the closed CCI unit at Adilabad. The latter, they told mediapersons, responded positively and said that he would weigh various options for reopening the factory during the Hyderabad meeting.
According to Mr. Bhuma Reddy, the Union Minister will consider the options of privatising the factory or handing it over to the State government for reviving it. He expressed interest in reopening the factory when he was told that the unit had its own land and the raw material in the shape of lime stone would last 100 years.
The team from Telangana also met Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot on Parliament premises seeking more funds for BC welfare in the State. He was told that funds were needed for the completion of construction of the 12 BC welfare hostel buildings which the State government has started.
The Ministers could not meet Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu for submission of a representation on pending projects in the State.
