Making a call to parents and teachers to strengthen the public schools, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari formally inaugurated ‘Uddeepana’, a scheme to introduce English as the medium of instruction in government schools, at Nakrekal here on Tuesday.

“In my view, only by developing the human resources can the State achieve Bangaru Telangana,” he said. Designed by the Nakrekal Constituency-level Educational Committee headed by MLA Vemula Veeresham and 19 other advisors and members, the Uddeepana aims at delivering quality education in government schools, wholly taught in English.

Earlier, the Minister visited the Mandala Praja Parishad Primary School at Kothagudem and interacted with children and teachers there.

“Children as young as those in class 1 and 2 were able to converse confidently in English, I am happy,” he said.

With the commitment of teachers, trainers, parents and administration more such schools can be developed. This will be emulated at places in the State, with Nakrekal as the model, Mr. Srihari said.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that there was enough evidence to silence the critics of KG to PG scheme in the State. He went onto list the achievements by the Education Department in the three-year tenure: Setting up of 525 residential schools, 86 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, 51 residential schools for SC/ST girls and 29 residential schools in urban areas.

Mr. Srihari said that the requests from teachers’ unions for staff and funds crunch will be addressed soon. Praising shower on the design committee, the Minister said that his Department was ready to sanction ₹ 8 crore for public education system in Nakrekal.

For a responsible and successful stakeholding by all partners in the progress, Mr. Srihari said, “Will sanction ₹ 8 crore to Nakrekal, if the MLA contributes ₹ 1 crore and the Collector and the MP contribute ₹ 50 lakh each.”

District Collector Gaurav Uppal said that around 393 Vidya Volunteers had been sanctioned for the district for all standards to ensure safety of students were in place. He said that the district stood at fifth position in adhering to education standards in the State.

Also present at the programme was Bhongir MP Boora Narsaiah Goud who said, “Education, not money brought us to this levels of leadership. Only KCR’s oratorical skills won the separate statehood.” He urged teachers to engage in continuous learning and sharpen communication skills to further teach students.

Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham said that the intake of students in the current year had increased over the last year by about 2,400 students and requested for more facilities at schools.
