Two Chhattisgarh-based Maoists, including a senior cadre of the rank of the district committee member of the central regional company (CRC)-II, surrendered before the police in the presence of Assistant Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt in Bhadrachalam on Monday.
Police said Doddi Nandu, 27, company platoon commander, and Sodi Muke, 25, a member of the CRC-II based in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, gave themselves up before the ASP following persistent efforts by the police through their family members to convince them join the mainstream. Nandu hails from Gottodu village of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. Sodi Muke belongs to Chennapuram in Charla mandal of Bhadrachalam division in the district. Nandu was enrolled into the CPI (Maoist) Balala Sangham when he was ten years old, and Sodi Muke joined the outlawed outfit as militia member in 2011, the police sources said.
He worked in various capacities in the banned outfit in south Bastar region before being appointed as company platoon commander of CRC-II in 2012.
He was wanted in about nine cases of Maoist violence in the restive Bastar division of the neighbouring State.
He was allegedly involved in a major exchange of fire at Botetong and firing at security personnel guarding a helipad near Pamed in Bijapur district last year.
According to police sources, Sodi Muke joined the outlawed outfit as militia member in 2011. As many as eight cases, including six offences of planting land mines, are pending against her in Bastar division.
