Two Maoist militia commanders, one belonging to the Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC) and another to Chetana Natya Mandali (CNM), of the banned outfit were arrested by the police during an area domination operation near Taliperu dam in Charla mandal of Bhadrachalam division on Friday, police said.

The duo were identified as RPC militia commander Kalma Lakma alias Mahesh, 22, of Chennapuram, and CNM militia commander Podium Idamaiah, 25, of Yerrampadu in Charla mandal, said Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt.

Talking to newsmen in Charla on Friday, Mr. Sunil said a steel box weighing about 5 kg., 10 meter cardex wire, 24 iron pieces and other material were recovered from the duo when they were nabbed at Taliperu dam by a joint squad of the district special party police and the CRPF men of 141 Battalion.

Lakma was allegedly involved in as many as 15 cases - including two murder cases under Charla and Dummugudem police station limits. He was wanted in various cases of Maoist violence, including blasting of BSNL cell tower at Satyanarayanapuram and firing on police patrol party in Charla a few years ago, the ASP said.

Idamaiah was active in campaigning for Maoists through revolutionary songs and aiding the latter in planting land mines in the forest fringe areas, he added.
