Two drowned as car plunges into canal in Karimnagar

Two women employees belonging to health department were drowned when the car in which they were travelling plunged into the SRSP canal on the outskirts of Kokkerakunta village of Choppadandi mandal on Monday.

Police sources said that the health department personnel, who were on the duty to administer filaria medicines, were travelling to the villages in a hired car. On the outskirts of Kokkerakunta village, the car driver tried to take a turn at a culvert and lost control of the vehicle which fell into the canal.

Driver Harish managed to come out of the vehicle but health supervisor Ananthakumari and A.N.M. Balasaraswathi were trapped inside the car and drowned in the swirling waters. Both the employees were working with Choppadandi Primary Health Centre.

The bodies of the deceased were retrieved in the evening and the Choppadandi police are investigating the case.
