After a wait of almost two decades, farmers of two villages which were submerged in the Singur project had reason to cheer. A compensation amount of ₹ 1,31,55,801 was released for the land oustees of Daultabad by the government through GO number 983 on Saturday. This was thanks to the active intervention of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman and District Principal and Sessions Judge Justice B. Kalayana Chakravarthi and Secretary Justice M. Bhavani among others.

Similarly, for the land oustees of Mallikarjunapally an amount of ₹ 45,77,059 was sanctioned under GO number 982 and ₹ 84,17,000 under GO number 961 for land oustees of ODF. These GO were released few days ago and a total of ₹ 2,61,49,860 was released through three GOs by the government.

Disclosing these details here on Saturday after the Lok Adalat, Justice Kalyana Chakravarthi and Justice Bhavani said that the land acquisition case of Singur pertains to 1998 and all these years the farmers were waiting for their compensation. They were able to coordinate with different departments and see that the issue was addressed amicably with mutual consent from both the parties.

Referring to a partition case which was about seven years old, Justice Kalyana Chakravarthi said the case was settled with mutual consent of both the parties. Otherwise, it might have dragged for several years if not resolved now. He said that resolving cases at early stage would keep families united.

Justice Bhavani said that the focus is on pre-2011 cases and effort is to bring it to zero pendency.
