Two accused in jewellery shop heist arrested

Adilabad police on Thursday arrested two accused in the sensational jewellery shop robbery case and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs. 6 lakh, stolen on the night of September 27. A notorious gang of seven members had committed the robbery of which the two accused Jaswant Singh alias Jassa and Satnam Singh alias Satnam are members.

Producing the accused at a press conference, Superintendent of Police Gajarao Bhupal and Assistant SP D. Joel Davis said the gang broke into the jewellery shop near Devichand chowk and took away a safe weighing 300 kg which contained cash and jewellery, all worth over Rs. 13 lakh. The police were able to identify the culprits from some clues like the tyre marks of the vehicle used in the offence collected from a field near Pippalkuti village across the border where the accused had dumped the broken safe.

A police team had pursued leads and went up to Nepal border in Uttarakhand, 1,700 km from here to arrest the accused. The teams had stayed at Udham Singh Nagar and New Delhi for 22 days before arresting the two from that district.

Giving details of the gang, Mr. Davis said the gang had committed several offences in the past in various States. He said one of their leaders, Angrej Singh was killed in an encounter with Nagpur police in 2006.

Mr. Bhupal praised the efforts of the police team comprising One Town CI K. Buchi Reddy, SIs Pullaiah, Sanjeev and Anjamma, head constables Siraj Khan, Appa Rao, Maniram, Ujjwala, constables Syed Zakir Ali, Zameer, Gangadhar, Karim, Javid, Nagaraj and computer experts Sanjeev and Shekhar. He also praised Mr. Davis for cracking the case within a month and half.
