Telangana had to get its share of Rs. 241 crore up to 2013 from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) towards the Common Good Fund (CGF). The TTD had to contribute Rs. 576.53 crore to the Endowments Department since 2003, said Legislative Affairs Minister T. Harish Rao.
Mr. Harish Rao told the Telangana Assembly on Wednesday that those temples, whose earnings were over Rs. 50,000, had to contribute 5 per cent of the amount towards the CGF. As per the Reorganisation Act, the amount has to be apportioned between the successor States on the basis of population ratio. A total of 33 proposals concerning CGF, amounting to Rs. 17.11 crore, are pending with the government. Mr. Rao assured members that the government was sincere about developing temples. The fact that it allocated Rs. 100 crore for Yadgirigutta temple was proof enough. Earlier, K. Laxman (BJP) said priests in many temples were not getting their salaries for the last five months.
