The Government of Telangana is getting ready to unveil the new Information Technology (IT) policy during the third week of this month, buoyed by the encouraging response its new industrial policy announced recently, has received.
Making Hyderabad the best and most attractive IT destination in the country, targeting Rs. 20,000 crore IT/ITES exports, aiming at 16 per cent growth rate for the IT sector and creating direct/indirect employment potential for 20 lakh people are likely to be the drivers of the new policy. IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao has been engaged in discussing the features of the new policy with the Secretary (IT) to the State government Harpreet Singh and other officials for the last three days. They are planning to design the IT policy in such a way that it is the most attractive in the country, the Minister said on Sunday.
Priority will be given to companies coming up with proposals to set up mega projects and a chasing cell will be created to help such investors. Start-up companies will also be lent a helping hand to encourage research, the Minister said.
Stating that Hyderabad was already one of the most sought after destinations in the country, Mr. Rama Rao said they were planning to offer more to attract entrepreneurs and investors by preparing a policy with inspiration drawn from the industrial policy unveiled recently. The focus of the new policy will be giving permissions for setting up IT units in the shortest possible time by reducing the delay in the process of applications at different levels, he noted.
The State government had already undertaken the task of improving skills among the qualified unemployed youth by making them employment-ready by designing training programmes appropriately in partnership with the industry. The skill development training is aimed at making the youth employable, encouraging them to take up research/innovation and building entrepreneurship, the Minister explained.
Mr. Rama Rao said the government would make efforts be to bring down the socio-economic imbalance in the society by offering additional incentives to the companies coming forward to set up their IT units in tier-two and tier-three cities. The policy will also give a thrust to developing infrastructure required for IT employees.
