The government of Telangana is preparing a note on severe space congestion being faced by its officers and other employees in the Secretariat, for discussion before the Governor at a scheduled meeting on Wednesday under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Senior officers from the governments of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh would participate in the meeting, basically to sort out issues related to allotment of government buildings to different offices, departments and institutions of the two governments located in Hyderabad. According to the act, the basic principle for division of office space is on the basis of population.
A senior officer in the government of Telangana directed the Roads & Buildings Department officials on Tuesday to prepare a note highlighting three aspects — the space congestion being faced by Telangana officers and other employees, particularly in Secretariat; the issue of renovation and reuse of G-Block, a heritage structure which is in a dilapidated condition; and the suggestion of moving out AP Secretariat to a new premises from the existing buildings so that the employees of both sides work in tranquillity.
The details of the space occupied by All-India Service (AIS) officers and other employees temporarily allotted to AP in the D-Block and vice versa, if any, would be explained in the first point. When contacted, highly placed sources stated that a few AIS officers allotted to AP were still operating from D-Block occupying a sizeable space. The Governor would also be explained how much more space, in addition to the buildings allotted to them now, needed by Telangana officers and employees for working with comfort, the sources said.
On the fate of G-Block, the Telangana officials would put forward a proposal already submitted by a team of experts from Rajasthan for restoration of the heritage building in dilapidation condition and its reuse. The team had sought Rs. 2 crore for restoring the structure. They would also explain how moving out of AP Secretariat to a new premises would ensure tranquillity for the employees of the two governments.
