Sravya Kalyanapu, the girl from Khammam who is a contestant in the Miss World Canada pageant, has won the people’s choice round of the competition on Sunday.
According to her father Ravi Kumar, she pooled over five lakh votes which helped her win by a huge margin of over three lakh votes.
Rare honour
Ms. Sravya, who is a B.Tech. student at University of Alberta Canada, has already won the Miss Northern Alberta World-2017 earlier this year. If she wins the contest, she would represent Canada in the Miss World contest, a rare honour for the country.
Ravi Kumar had migrated to Fort McMurray in Canada in 2005 after working in Adilabad as an Agriculture Officer. His daughter was just 10 years old then.
“Sravya is the first India-born girl to win a beauty contest outside the country,” Mr. Ravi Kumar pointed out. Nina Davuluri, who had won Miss America-2014 contest, was born in the United States.
