Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is the only government in the country that has been offering money to farmers to purchase seeds and fertilizers.

“Ours is the only government that has been according top priority to farmers and meeting their requirements. As Rs. 17,000 farm loan waiver was completed this year we are offering Rs. 6,000 per acre to purchase seeds and fertilizers from next year. We will fill the Singoor reservoir with Godavari water from Kaleswaram through Mallannasagar and the design was already approved,” said Mr. Harish Rao while addressing the party workers meeting held here on Sunday and later in a press conference.

Mission Kakatiya

He said that Mission Kakatiya has become an example for others States who are visiting several tanks in the State.

The programme was presided over by MLA P. Babumohan.

Stating that 30,000 acres under Singoor and 40,000 acres under Nallavagu came to cultivation due to the initiatives taken by the government, the Minister questioned the sincerity of the Congress leaders to meet the needs of farmers when they were in power.

“We have witnessed long queues for seeds and fertilizers during the Congress regime and repeated appeals to provide Singoor water for irrigation was not met. There was a turn around after TRS came to power and since then farmers were never on roads. There were no queues for seeds or fertilizers. They were able to cultivate additional ayacut in Medak,” he said urging the farmers to support the Chief Minister during the party meeting at Warangal by attending in large numbers. He has suggested the organisers to provide buses for women attending the meeting. He said that at least 15,000 party workers and farmers should attend the meeting.

Procurement centres

Mr Harish Rao said that paddy procurement centres are being established wherever required and every grain will be purchased by the government. He has suggested the farmers to bring paddy to the centres after drying so that right price can be paid by the officials.

The Minister also promised to issue orders for Talelma lift through which another 70 to 80 tanks can be filled from Singoor reservoir.
