Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar has alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who made tall claims on the construction of double bedroom housing scheme, has failed to fulfill the promise.

Talking to newsmen on Wednesday, he said that as per the information collected under the Right to Information Act, it was found that the Government had constructed only 1,312 double bedroom houses in the State against the target of 2.66 lakh houses during its three years of rule.

“The Government had spent only ₹ 214 crore for the construction of the houses while the Union Government had released ₹ 975 crore,” he quoted from the RTI reply. He questioned the Government as to why it had failed to spend the Central Government assistance for the housing scheme.

Ridiculing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders’ claims on the housing scheme, he asked whether the Government would complete the construction of the houses and hand over to the beneficiaries in the remaining two-year period.

The TRS Government which had ridiculed the Indiramma housing scheme should prove its sincerity and construct the houses as per the promise made to the people, he stated.

He said that the Congress during its 10-year regime had constructed a total of 22.89 lakh Indiramma houses and provided shelter to the people. Flaying the TRS allegations on the Indiramma housing scheme, he demanded that the Government punish the culprits involved in the Indiramma housing scheme as per the CID report.

Former legislator Bomma Venkateshwar, former Mayor D. Shankar and others were also present.
