‘Transparency is the buzzword of the programme’

Work tenders for 96 p.c. of tanks submitted with estimates less than the proposed budget: Harish

Dismissing the allegations of malpractices in Mission Kakatiya works, Irrigation Minister K. Harish Rao said transparency is maintained at all levels in the works.

In Warangal district, tenders were called for 966 tanks for desilting with an estimated cost of Rs.300 crore. Work tenders for 96 per cent of tanks were submitted with estimates less than the proposed budget, he said.

Chairman A. Narayana launched desilting works at Ooracheruvu at Kuntapally village in Sangem mandal in the district here on Sunday.

The works are being carried out jointly with the participation of Telangana Union of Working Journalists and the district Employees Joint Action Committee.

Addressing a gathering at the village, Mr. Rao exhorted people to take part in the noble task of reviving age-old tanks.

The government will not compromise in terms of quality of works in Mission Kakatiya works, he said.

As many as 1,288 new contractors were given an opportunity to participate in Mission Kakatiya works. The Opposition leaders who are criticising the programme should first study how it is being carried out rather than criticising for name’s sake, he said. As per the promise, the government is making serious efforts to provide irrigation facility to one lakh acres in each Assembly segment in the State.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said that Rs. 4,250 crore were allocated towards second phase crop loan waiver in the current financial year.

The main objective of Telangana government is all-round development of the State and the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is as making efforts towards that direction, he said.

Parliament Secretary D. Vinay Bhaskar said that it is a matter of pride that the State Government is headed by a Chief Minister who is fully aware of problems of people.

Meanwhile, government employees have donated Rs. 60 lakh for Mission Kakatiya works.

Member of Parliament A. Seetaram Naik, legislator Ch. Dharma Reddy, Employees JAC leader P. Subba Rao, TUWJ leader K. Anil Kumar Goud, Irrigation Superintendent Engineer V. Padma Rao and others were present.
