The Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) in association with Magma Finance Corporation has embarked upon an ambitious task of providing training programme to about one lakh truck drivers across the country, on fuel conservation, reduction in accidents and need for lowering pollution levels, in the country.

Accordingly, the first such programme was formally launched at Transportnagar here on Monday by inaugurating the Portacabin and two e-toilets.

The Portacabin is equipped with LCD monitor to conduct audio-visual lessons.

The cabin will accommodate 15 to 20 drivers at a time during the training programme. Similarly, they would also conduct medical camps for the benefit of truck-drivers and provide medicines.

Awareness campaign

Awareness programmes on prevention of various diseases such as AIDS would also be organised.

The doctors at the medical camp will also enlighten the drivers on how to overcome stress and the need for maintaining proper posture while driving etc.

The two e-toilets were also inaugurated at the Transportnagar and they would be operated free of cost. The RTC retired driving trainers would conduct training classes to the truck-drivers at this Portacabin for every fortnight. PCRA director Sumanth Kumar said that the petroleum ministry was taking all measures for conservation of natural resources and added that truck drivers training would help in achieving the desired goal. Stressing on the need for the conduct of training programme he appreciated Magma for coming forward for taking up the cause.

Magma Fincorp Limited Chief sales officer Sachin Khandelwal said that they were already conducting free pollution check camps for the drivers.

For the first time, we are providing training programme to one lakh truck drivers throughout the country in coordination with PCRA, he said and added that their mission was only to conserve oil. The proper tyre air pressure would conserve fuel by four to five percent, he said. Karimnagar District Lorry Owners Association president Thota Satyanarayana and others were also present.
