Tough task ahead for TRS in Khammam

August 31, 2014 10:44 pm | Updated June 10, 2016 08:25 am IST - KHAMMAM:

With mass influx of cadres from other parties into the Telangana Rastra Samithi appears imminent in the next few days, the district leadership of the ruling party has a tough task ahead to bring about coordination between the existing party cadres and the new entrants.

Interestingly, several leaders from other parties, those known for bitter criticism of the TRS in the past, chose to join the ruling party in the wake of drastic changes in the political scenario in the aftermath of the recent general elections.

Notwithstanding its thumping victory in the general elections in almost all parts of Telangana, the TRS could win only one Assembly seat (Kothagudem) of the total ten seats in Khammam district.

Jalagam Venkat Rao won from Kothagudem Assembly constituency and emerged as the lone representative of the TRS from the district in the State Assembly.

The resignation of former MLA Tummala Nageswara Rao and other leaders from the TDP and their reported move to join the TRS set off a debate in the political circles about the emerging developments in the political arena in the district.

Mr Venkat Rao and Mr Tummala Nageswara Rao fought against one another in the Assembly elections twice in the past.

Political observers feel that the plans of the TRS leadership to expand the party’s organizational base in Khammam district depends to a great extent on leading party’s rank and file including the new entrants with a coherent approach.

To join TRS

Meanwhile, Wyra MLA Banoth Madan Lal, who already resigned from the YSRC, is set to join the TRS along with several ZPTC and MPTC members in Hyderabad in a day or two.

A host of Congress leaders including several elected representatives of Yellendu Assembly constituency are reportedly contemplating to join the TRS shortly, sources added.

Finance Minister and TRS senior leader E Rajender is likely to tour Madhira Assembly constituency on September 2. He is expected to review the organisational matters with the party district leaders in Khammam town the same day in the evening.
