Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) has chosen Tirupati for its 45th Annual Convocation, the first to be held after state bifurcation. The memorable occasion, which also marks the completion of the varsity’s 50th year, will be held at Mahati Auditorium here on April 4 (Saturday).

Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Deputy Director-General (Operations) Daniel Gustafson, will deliver the convocation address, while the Governor-cum-Chancellor E.S.L. Narasimhan will preside over the proceedings.

“We have selected the abode of Lord Venkateswara for the convocation as it will augur well for the university in the new state”, Vice-Chancellor A. Padma Raju told the media here on Thursday. The varsity plans to confer honoris causa doctorate on Dr. Gustafson, in view of his contribution to the field of agricultural economics, soil and water management.

It may be recalled here that Dr. Gustafson, formerly FAO Ambassador to India, was instrumental in taking up a major water management project in the year 2003 in Musalipedu tank near Tirupati and even interacted with the local water users.

While 905 students belonging to various faculties and courses have qualified for the Convocation, 217 from both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states are expected to receive their degrees on Saturday, the Registrar T.V. Satyanarayana said.
