The district police on Sunday claimed to have thwarted an alleged attempt by some Maoist leaders to procure explosive materials and trigger landmine blasts to kill policemen and other “targets” with the arrest of three Maoist sympathisers along with some explosive material in Bhadrachalam division.

Acting on specific inputs about the alleged attempts by Maoists to obtain explosives for carrying out landmine blasts somewhere along the inter-State border with Chhattisgarh, the police had intensified patrolling at various locations in the district, police sources said.

As part of stepped- up vehicle checking drive, police teams nabbed two persons Madivi Sammaiah and Nanda at Devanagaram in Charla mandal and one Mirgam Arjun near Bhadrachalam town on Sunday morning, sources added.

Producing the arrested trio before the media in Kothagudem later in the day, Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishor Jha said several gelatin sticks and detonators, besides bundles of electrical wire, were seized from the possession of the trio.

He said that cases were registered against the trio under relevant sections of the IPC at Charla and Bhadrachalam police stations respectively.
