It is not very common to come across people who are ready to part with their earnings for the welfare of the society. Police constable Manubothula Jitendar has been doing yeoman service to the poor since 2009 and has been in the forefront trying to bring a change in their lives by fighting for their rights. Jitendar was also instrumental in bringing changes in his residential Babu Camp colony in Siddharth Nagar in Kazipety that benefited the locals. Jitendar does not hesitate to spend from his pocket for the poor

He does not hesitate to spend money from his pocket if it helps the society in one way or the other. On seeing the Pochamma temple surrounded by drain water, he spent Rs 1.2 lakh for developing it, though none bothered to come forward to do it. However this action of his got one by one gifting items to the temple such as mike set, ornaments etc. He also spent Rs. 1.20 lakh to erect Ambedkar statue and this he did without taking any donations only to inspire the youth of his SC colony which is predominantly inhabited by the SCs. Speaking to The Hindu , Jitendar said there were many youth in the colony and to ensure that their attention was not diverted towards anti-social activities during their free time, he got a small area cleaned and earmarked for games and other such activities. He also bought 40 shuttle rackets and now the youth engage themselves in a game of shuttle , he added. “I have earmarked one room in my house to serve as a library and named it as Ambedkar Vignana Kendra. I have stocked the library with books and many locals spend their free time here,” he explained.

Mr Jitendar studied MA (English), BEd and LLM. Soon after his degree he joined as police constable in 1985. He has been pursuing higher studies and served as source of inspiration to the fellow youth to follow suit. I am happy that I could protect the burial ground in Siddhartha Nagar from land grabbers. Once it was a five-acre plot but due to encroachments, it shrunk to 2.5 acres. When some land grabbers were trying to occupy it, I with the help of Ambedkar Youth Association moved police, court and revenue officials.
