A festive atmosphere pervaded Thallampadu in Khammam rural mandal with the polling station in the Zilla Parishad Secondary School in the village being tastefully spruced up to welcome the voters to exercise their franchise in the by-election to Palair Assembly constituency slated for Monday.

The polling station in Thallampadu is one among a total of 12 polling stations designated as model polling stations for the Palair by-election.

A total of 243 polling stations including 12 model polling stations have been set up in the entire Palair constituency comprising four mandals.

The polling station consisting of four polling booths in Thallampadu has been decked up with colourful shamianas dotting the building premises and red carpets lining the floor on the eve of festival of democracy.

The election authorities have made all the requisite arrangements including furniture, help desk, ramp and wheel chair at the model polling station for the convenience of voters.

A display board has been installed on the premises of the polling station to familiarise the voters with the layout of the polling station to help them gain easy access to the voting compartments.

Election Commission of India (ECI) Principal Secretary S K Rudola visited the model polling station in Thallampadu late on Sunday afternoon.

ECI general observer R Palaniswamy, expenditure observer K K Sravan Kumar, Khammam District Collector M Dana Kishore, Trainee Collector Md Musharraf Ali, Superintendent of Police Rama Rajeshwari, Zilla Parishad CEO M Nagesh and others were present.

Mr Dana Kishore said the model polling stations will make voting a pleasant and enriching experience for the electorate.

The voters can exercise their franchise in a festive ambience in the model polling stations, he said, adding that arrangements were in place to provide basic amenities to the voters in all the remaining polling stations across the Palair constituency.
