Tension gripped the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Thallada on Sunday when relatives of a pregnant woman staged a massive protest in front of the PHC after she gave birth to a stillborn baby girl in the alleged absence of the medical officer concerned before being "abruptly discharged" from the PHC by nursing staff of the government health facility. The protest continued till last reports came in as the demonstrators sought stringent action against the staff concerned for alleged dereliction of duty. N Nagamani of Balapeta in Thallada mandal was admitted to the PHC on Sunday morning.

She had undergone harrowing experience due to obstructed labour for more than two hours before giving birth to a stillborn baby under the supervision of the nursing staff, sources said. Citing the “stipulated working hours” on Sunday, the staff concerned reportedly discharged her at about 11 am barely two hours after the delivery, sources added.
