Medak district has been attracting the attention of entire State as it is being represented by none other than Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Any initiation taken by the administration naturally catches the attention of wide spectrum. Against this back ground, Collector Rahul Bojja explains various initiatives taken up by the authorities in an interview.
Has the work for tank restoration commenced? When will be the first phase completed?
The administration has identified about 7,900 tanks for restoration in the district and in the first phase about 2,100 would be restored. We will be calling for tenders in two weeks for restoration works. Already survey was conducted for about 1,000 tanks by the concerned authorities.
What about the feeder channels, those probably under occupation at many places?
Surely, it was a Herculean task to get them cleared. We have to identify feeder channels, get the silt removed from the tanks and prepare the distribution network, ready to supply water to farms. We want to involve the community, farmers, public representatives, SHG groups, revenue and panchayat raj officials in this exercise. We will convince the people about the need of freeing feeder channels from occupation. The government would be spending about Rs. 40 lakh for each tank to get it restored to its original position.
Why are there agitations for pensions at several places?
Data collected under Samagra Kutumba Survey (SKS) not getting uploaded at some areas, offering pension for only one person in the family in case of two old aged persons, not extending pension for destitute and jogins are some of the reasons for the public agitation. For example details of a village were not uploaded from Dubbak constituency and three wards went missing from Jogipet - Andol Nagara panchayat. We are rectifying the mistakes and the edit option was opened.
Large numbers of farmers were committing suicides. What steps are put in place to arrest the tendency?
We are trying to convince the farmers to come out of traditional farming, and ‘area based approach’ is part of the plan. Here about 50 farmers would be formed as a group and they would be encouraged to take up horticulture cultivation and we will help in marketing. Being close to the capital city, we can improve the revenue of people by involving them in allied activities like dairy, livelihood/skill improving activities.
