Ten shepherds, hundreds of stranded sheep rescued

As many as ten shepherds and hundreds of sheep were rescued on Monday afternoon after being stranded on an island in the swollen Godavari at Koregadda in Charla mandal for more than 12 hours.

The rescue teams comprising the revenue and police personnel besides fishermen brought the shepherds and their entire flock of sheep to safety by using more than six boats. Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah also accompanied the rescue team personnel in one of the boats.Venkatapuram CI M Sai Ramana and Charla SI N Ravinder supervised the rescue operation, which lasted till late in the afternoon.

The family members of the shepherds heaved a sigh of relief on the safe return of their breadwinners along with their 1,500 strong flock of sheep.
