Telangana is planning to launch the ‘Telanganaku Haritha Haaram’ this year on July 8 with the participation of about 85,000 individuals comprising students, members of self-help groups, officials and elected representatives, besides Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, along the 165 km national highway from Hyderabad to the State border with Andhra Pradesh.
On the same day, the programme would be launched in other districts by Ministers, legislators and MPs in their respective constituencies and officials in their respective departments.
The government has decided to take up plantation of flower-bearing and shade-providing trees all along the 165-km national highway from Abdullapurmet near Ramoji Film City in Ranga Reddy district on the outskirts of Hyderabad to Nallabandagudem in Kodad mandal in Nalgonda district, after which the road enters Andhra Pradesh.
According to officials, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao would participate in the programme at Pedda Kaparthi in Chityal mandal of Nalgonda district. Officials have divided the stretch into 14 segments with one senior officer being made in-charge of every segment. Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister, Priyanka Verghese, who is also in-charge of Haritha Haaram in the CMO, is supervising the launch in Nalgonda district.
The stretch spreads across six Assembly constituencies, 10 mandals and 50 villages. An action plan has been prepared for participation of the villagers residing along the highway voluntarily. Special counters will be set up for distribution of saplings in the 14 segments and measures will be taken for protection of the planted saplings.
Instead of planting only one type of saplings, it has been decided to go for different types of plants for every 10-km stretch. The same method will be followed in the plantation along the other national highway stretches in the State.
Meanwhile, the Forest Department officials are making arrangements to supply saplings of medicinal, fruit, flower and shade-giving varieties in the city. It is being planned to plant medicinal saplings on July 11 at KBR Park, Shamshabad Airport, Necklace Road, People’s Plaza, Hitec City, Charminar and Uppal areas.
